"Reality Check" for high school seniors

Students are assigned a fictitious family, education level, job and income. After figuring their taxes and determining how much net they have per month, they will go “shopping” for housing, transportation, day care, groceries, medical care, insurance and more as they keep a record of their spending vs. their earnings.

As happens in real life, they will be hit with unexpected expenses or bonuses that will cause them to refigure what they can afford.
